2024 Kappa Foundation of Cary Scholarship
Information.

Letter from the Chairmen

Dear Kappa Friends,

The Cary (NC) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. through the Kappa Foundation of Cary (KFOC), is pleased to award applicants three (3) tuition assistance scholarships and two (2) book awards for the college academic year beginning in the Fall of 2024. The tuition assistance scholarships are valued as follows:

  • One (1) academic scholarship award valued at $1,500

  • Two (2) academic scholarship awards each valued at $1,000

  • Two (2) book scholarship awards each valued at $500

The purpose of the Kappa Foundation of Cary is to foster the intellectual, ethical, social, and moral development of youth in North Carolina with emphasis on disadvantaged African-American students in Wake County. In addition to nurturing and supporting the intellectual development of these young people, the Corporation strives to deepen young people’s commitment to their communities and to promote pro- social values such as personal responsibility, respect for self, respect for others, and achievement in every field of endeavor.

For school administrators, it is requested that your school or organization make the application link available to outstanding candidates who meet the selection criteria. The application must be complete and submitted by Friday, April 26, 2024 (5 pm ET) accompanying documentation (official transcript) must be postmarked or delivered to the undersigned by Monday, April 30, 2024.

Upon selection of the awardees by the Scholarship Committee, a presentation ceremony may be held in May/June (Date yet to be determined). Please note that proof of acceptance in an accredited 2- or 4- year institution of higher learning is required prior to releasing of funds to the awardees.

Application Information.

Mission

The purpose of the Kappa Foundation of Cary is to foster the intellectual, ethical, social, and moral development of young people in North Carolina with special emphasis on disadvantaged African American young men in Wake County.  In addition to nurturing and sponsoring the intellectual development of young people, the Corporation strives to deepen young people’s commitment to their communities and to promote pro-social values such as personal responsibility, respect for self, respect for others, and achievement in every field of human endeavor.

Deadline to upload application:           April 26, 2024 (5pm est)

***Late and/or incomplete applications will be disqualified. NO EXCEPTIONS.***

Criteria

The eligibility criteria are given under each of the scholarships listed below. By completing this application, you will be considered for all scholarships for which you meet the criteria.
 

  1. Be an African American male or female.

  2. Be a resident of Wake County for 2 years prior to submitting an application.

  3. Be a graduating high school senior in a Western Wake County Public High Schools located in Cary, Apex, Morrisville, Holly Springs, or Fuquay-Varina)

  4. Be a U.S. citizen.

  5. Plan to attend an accredited two (2) or four (4) year college or university.

  6. Show personal leadership qualities as demonstrated in extracurricular school and community activities.

Notification and Presentation of Award

Applicants will be notified about the Scholarship Selection Committees’ decisions on or before May 6, 2024.

The KFOC will coordinate with the schools of KFOC Scholarship or Book Awards winners for the opportunity to present awardees with a commemorative check during their respective High School Senior Awards Ceremonies on a date to be determined by the school (if applicable).

With the submission of the application, KFOC may use your information (Name/Photo) notification of scholarship recipients on the foundation's social media website.

Note: Kappa League (KL) of Cary Seniors who receive a Kappa League Scholarship may be required to attend a Scholarship awards presentation hosted by the KFOC and Guide Right Committee at a venue and date TBD in May/June. NON-ATTENDANCE WILL, IN SOME CASES, RESULT IN FORFEITURE OF THE SCHOLARSHIP AWARD, DEPENDING ON THE CIRCUMSTANCES.
